As many of you know, I am currently having a 7 week series that shows you how to make a successful website. Each week, I will give you a new “how-to” on making your website successful.  For the first week, I  talked about picking your niche and purchasing web hosting and a domain.

I have received a lot of feedback on the post through emails and I would like to do a follow up post for those of you who are still having some trouble.

David from RetiredPay has been kind enough to offer everyone who wants to participate in this 7 weeks series free hosting for six months! That’s right, absolutely free with no strings attached. As long as the niche you picked does not contain pornographic material and will not get into any legal trouble, it’s all yours. If you’d like to get in on this Christmas gift from him, just send him an email at davestarr (at) gmail (dot) com and let him know you’d like to get in on his offer.

I’ve also been receiving emails from people still having trouble picking a niche. I understand you completely. The first time I picked my niche I had trouble as well. To “cure” this problem, I just went to my local library and went to their magazine section. Just go through them and find things you like or enjoy, maybe a past-time hobby that you could possibly write about.

If you have any questions about Week 1 of 7 Weeks to Success,  please feel free to contact me.

Thanks for the link, Drew. That “pick a niche” thing certainly stops many of us from getting something done. You can make it really, really hard … and get nowhere … or you cna just do something intelligent but simple like your magazine suggestion and actually get some place.

Almost any niche will do to get started ,,, better a niche with slow growth or lower payouts thna none at all … because if you have something of interest _to you_ it’s very unlikely it will not be of interest to someone else … and if you like it, you will be able to put in the time to build it up … so I suggest, don’t put too fine apoint on the selection process, this is a seven week learning exercise, not a marriage ;-)

seems like you copy John Chow.
you’re smothering your website with ads and you even do an income report like him.

This post about helping people get a website together is to benefit yourself with all those affiliate links for hosting and crap. i don’t think there’s one link on here that someone can click and you not get paid for it. *sigh* bloggers annoy me.

    @ lick penor:
I never saw John Chow do a series that guides people to building a successful. I’m sure he’s not the one that started income reports either. Are you on of this John Chow suck-ups?

Yes, I do get money when people sign up for hosting. It’s my readers free way to help me without having to pay for a $97 eBook. If I did place a longer version of my 7 Week Series in an eBook, it would also have the same affiliate links - just like every other eBook on the internet.

I’d suggest that you read up on your information.

Don’t bother with the trolls everyone. They will do anything to upset the balance. They are everywhere,

Thanks Drew for more info that we dont have to shell out money for.

    FREE Information = GOOD!!!
    Keep it coming!

Thanks Heather :) . The free information will continue to come.

I just find it funny how “lick penor” has to hide behind a web proxy and a fake name. Obviously someone has something to hide.

EDIT: lickpenor, I didn’t try to email you. You’re obviously using fake emails. Until you come on here with your real IP and name, I will continue to delete your comments. But hey, don’t worry. Once you get your own blog, you can call the shots too.

Interesting how the old saying, “No Good Deed goes Unpunished” seems to hold true online as well as off, isn’t it?

Last time I checked, “Lick”, this site and the series was about “making money” … what particular part of the phrase “Get Paid To” suggests charity, altruism or devotion to the cause of living life on someone else’s money so you don’t have to soil your hands earning.

If you dislike making money sites, hey, that’s great, may blessings flow down upon you, but why come by and denigrate those who do?

For the record, if this was about Drew making money, why would he allow me to post a totally free source for hosting as one (there are others) alternative to the affiliates he recommended?

As far as emulating John Chow, there are a lot of things John does that are worthy of emulation … including never cluttering up people’s blogs with “snarky” comments, using a real email address (I have a small folder of emails John and I have exchanged, he takes the time to talk to “little people” like me, and do it courteously), and so on.

So let’s all make it a resolution for 2008 to emulate, not John Chow in particular, but all those bloggers with the courage of their convictions who use real emails, treat others with respect and actually earn a living online. There are worse things we could emulate, for sure.

Seems like a good way to make some money online.
